"In the morning as he went back to the city, he grew hungry, and seeing a fig tree by the roadside, he went up to it but found nothing on it but leaves. And he said to it, 'No more fruit shall ever grow on you'. And the fig tree withered up at once." --Matthew 21:18-19
The Fig Tree and the Hidden Fruit
Reflection
The Lord sees those small beginnings in us, even when we don't. He knows the hidden work He's doing, and He gives growth in His perfect timing. Some fruit ripens quickly and visibly but may be vulnerable to the world's scorching heat. Other fruit grows slowly, protected beneath the leaves, but will be ready in its season.
Takeaway
God is not looking for instant perfection, but for signs of true fruit. Even the smallest bud is evidence of His work in us. We need not condemn ourselves for what is still “beneath the leaves.” In time, He will bring it to full maturity — none too early, and none too late.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for seeing the hidden fruit in my life, even when I cannot. Help me trust Your timing and rejoice in the growth You bring, whether seen or unseen. Amen.
