EYE OF THE NEEDLE

“My children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the Kingdom of God!” --Matthew 10:25, American Translation (Goodspeed)
Reflection
The “eye of the needle” wasn’t just the opening of a sewing tool, but also a narrow passage in the gates of a walled city. When the main gates were closed for the night, this tiny entry allowed late arrivals to come in. But to pass through, a camel had to be completely unloaded, often kneel down, and crawl through.
What a picture of our own lives. Burdened with responsibilities, worries, and weariness, we often arrive “late” at the Lord’s gates—exhausted, distracted, or feeling unworthy. Yet the Lord still welcomes us. He asks only that we unload what weighs us down and humbly bow before Him.
Like the camel, we must kneel to enter. Our baggage can’t come with us into His Kingdom, but once inside, we find rest, peace, and the joy of being home with our Father who has been waiting for us.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to unload my burdens at the gate. Even when I feel late, tired, or overwhelmed, help me bow low in humility and enter into Your presence. Thank You for always keeping the door open, even after hours. The more I know You the richer I truly become. Amen.
