CHRISTIANS AND LOATHING IN POLITICS

There is no denying that many Democrats, Liberals, and Leftists despise President Trump. Sometimes it seems that no matter what he does—even if it is good—he will be condemned. He once joked that if he saved a girl from drowning, Democrats would complain he kept the sharks from their meal. Sadly, there’s some truth to that.
But as Christians, we are called to measure everything by God’s Word, not political emotion. Scripture is clear: “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer” (1 John 3:15). And again: “If a man says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar” (1 John 4:20). Hatred has no place in the life of a believer, no matter how deep our political differences may run. Christians and hate in politics don't mix.
Some will argue that this doesn’t apply because they believe Trump loathes them first. But Scripture doesn’t give us permission to hate in return—it commands us to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:44). And while Trump may be blunt and disruptive, hatred toward him is not justified by God’s Word.
If you claim to love God yet nurture hatred for Trump—or for the millions of people who voted for him—you are standing on dangerous ground. Proverbs 10:12 warns us: “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.” Christians should be known for love, not for echoing the world’s hatred.
Yes, it’s messy right now. When you clean out a long-neglected garage, it looks worse before it looks better. But disorder has to be dealt with before peace can come. In the same way, Trump is tackling corruption and chaos, and that process is bound to be uncomfortable.
Christian Democrats must ask themselves: Am I letting the media and political voices stir hatred in my heart, or am I letting God’s Word shape me? Hatred divides, but love builds. Hatred destroys, but truth redeems.
In a broken world, hatred may be the easy path—but it is not Christ’s path. Let us choose love, even when it costs us.
